Vanuatu Cyclone Pam Appeal

Hi all,

Cyclone Pam has devastated Vanuatu, destroying homes, roads, and bridges. At least eight are dead and thousands more have been made homeless.

Vanuatu is among the world’s poorer nations, making it highly vulnerable to natural disasters.

People looking to help have several options.

– Unicef are focusing on helping children made vulnerable by the disaster. They have a “huge concern” about a measles epidemic in the mostly-unimmunised nation. Kiwis can donate online here.

– World Vision have maintained a presence on the island since the 1980s, and would need help providing food, shelter, and clean water. They are expecting the need to be “immense”. Kiwis can donate online here.

A local resident moves debris from near his damaged home after Cyclone Pam hit Port Vila, the capital city of the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.

– The Red Cross is sending specialist aid workers to assist with disaster relief. They already have many volunteers on the ground. Since access to Vanuatu is limited currently, they asked that Kiwis not send goods or clothes, but rather donate online here.

– Oxfam is looking for funds to provide basic shelters and sanitary materials. Kiwis can donate online here.

Thanks for any and all donations.
